Our Story

The Grafton K9 Foundation was formed in early 2021 after Chief Jeff Caponera joined the department with the vision of bringing a police canine aboard. Since then, the Board of Directors developed a plan to partner with community members and businesses to raise $100,000 to launch the Grafton Police Department's first canine unit. Fundraising efforts consist of In-Kind Partnerships, monetary donations, merchandise sales and community events.

Near the end of 2022, community fundraising efforts led us to Maverick as well as equipment, a fully outfitted squad car with safety equipment for the canine, training, maintenance, veterinary care and food. 

​

The goal of the foundation is to put a second canine in service and continue to fund the ongoing needs to the program.
